NSFAS 2024 Allowance Plan, According to the financial aid scheme, approximately one million students will receive allowances from NSFAS in 2024. More than one million South African students enrolled in approved programmes at universities and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges are supported by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

NSFAS bursaries are greatly valued by students who benefit from them Students who are approved for a NSFAS bursary receive money for tuition and registration fees. Furthermore, they are given several allowances for expenses associated with their studies, including accommodation, transportation, food, and stationery.

To ensure that students have money when they start their studies, NSFAS will make upfront payments to universities in 2024.

When Students Will Receive NSFAS Allowance Payments

At the end of January, NSFAS will pay upfront tuition and accommodation allowances to universities.  NSFAS allowance payments are made monthly, as stated by the Department: “Monthly payments are made at the end of each month.”.

However, for February and March 2024, payments will be made differently. Instead of monthly allowance payments from NSFAS, students will receive bi-weekly payments.

Who Qualifies For NSFAS Allowances

Bursaries and allowances are only available to students from poor or working-class backgrounds. To qualify, students must meet several eligibility criteria.  A student who enrolls in an approved course at a South African public university or TVET college is eligible for NSFAS funding.

Students with disabilities may apply for NSFAS funding if their household income does not exceed R600,000.

NSFAS 2024 Applications Now Open

On the official NSFAS website, prospective students can begin submitting their NSFAS bursary applications for 2024.

The NSFAS funding application window will remain open until 31 January 2024, which means students have just over one month to submit their applications.
